US-India energy research collaboration
unveiled
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
and the University of California at Berkeley are collaborating with
Indian universities, companies and government agencies to develop
renewable energy technologies and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Berkeley-India
Joint Leadership on Energy and Environment (BIJLEE) will support
basic science and engineering, new technology development and policies
to promote sustainable energy. Initial work will focus on energy-efficient
buildings, electricity systems, energy analysis, energy conversion
and storage, information technology, forestry and renewable energy.
Investor Purnendu Chatterjee has contributed $2 million to
the collaboration to endow two chairs at UC Berkeley's College of
Engineering.
