Public grid to hunt for solar
plastics
IBM has launched another World
Community Grid project, this time aimed at providing compute power
to Harvard researchers who are working on efficient, inexpensive organic
solar cells.
The Clean
Energy Project allows people to donate idle time on their computers
to create a virtual supercomputer that the researchers will use to
calculate the optical and electronic properties of thousands of organic
compounds. The researchers aim to build a database of materials and
identify candidates for solar cells.
