Stanford launches energy research
institute
Stanford University yesterday launched
a $100 million institute dedicated to energy research.
The Precourt Institute for Energy will roll together Stanford's
Global Climate and Energy Project
and Precourt
Institute for Energy Efficiency, and will add a new research center,
the TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy.
Energy resources engineering professor Lynn Orr will lead
the institute. Orr was director of the Global Climate and Energy Project.
The funding will create 7 or 8 faculty positions and support fellowships
for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
The institute's research will include nanomaterials for solar
energy and energy storage.
