NSF pumps up biofuel research
The National Science Foundation has
funded five research projects aimed at producing biofuel from cellulosic
biomass or algae.
* Improved closed reactor for algal biofuel production (Microalgal-based Production of Biofuels and High Energy Combustion Materials)
* Study of lignin during cellulosic biofuel production (Fundamental Understanding of Behaviors and Impacts of Cell Wall Lignin during
Bioconversion of Lignocellulose to Fuel Ethanol )
* Efficient conversion of cellulosic biomass to biofuel (Simple, Inexpensive, High-Yield Process for the Production of Motor Fuels from
Cellulose)
* Microorganisms that boost biofuel feedstock growth (Nitrogen Fixation in Poplar: Increased Efficiency of Bioenergy Crop Production)
* Environmentally-friendly cellulosic biofuel processing (Hydrolysis of Cellulose and Lignocellulosic Biomass into Fermentable Sugars using
Acidic Ionic Liquid Medium)
