ARPA-E slates $100m for grid,
electronics, buildings
The Department of Energy announced $100 million will be made available through ARPA-E for innovative research in grid storage, power electronics, and building efficiency.
ARPA-E's third round of funding targets three areas.
Grid-Scale Rampable Intermittent Dispatchable Storage (GRIDS) is for research in energy storage technologies that counteract the variability of renewable energy sources like solar panels and wind turbines.
Agile Delivery of Electrical Power Technology (ADEPT) is for research in efficient power converters for electronic devices and renewable energy sources. The goal is to reduce the nation's electricity consumption by 25 to 30 percent.
Building Energy Efficiency Through Innovative Thermodevices (BEET-IT) is for research in energy-efficient low-emission cooling systems for buildings.
