ARPA-E taps second round winners
ARPA-E, the Department of Energy's funding program for high-risk, high-reward research, has awarded $106 million to 37 research projects.
The projects fall into three areas:
- Electrofuels - Biofuels from Electricity
- Better Batteries - Batteries for Electrical Energy Storage in Transportation
- Zero-Carbon Coal - Innovative Materials & Processes for Advanced Carbon Capture Technologies
The projects are described here.
The awards are ARPA-E's second funding round. The agency awarded
$151 million to 37 projects in October 2009. The third
round of funding will target projects in Grid-Scale Rampable Intermittent
Dispatchable Storage, Agile Delivery of Electrical Power Technology,
and Building Energy Efficiency Through Innovative Thermodevices.
