New Scientist has posted some creative images from the photographer Chris Jordan that give a visceral impression of the staggering rates of consumption in the US.
The images include 28,000 42-gallon barrels representing the oil consumed in the US every two minutes and one million plastic cups representing the cups used on airline flights in the US every six hours.
I find the numbers more powerful than the images, but the idea of statistics as fodder for art is great and I especially like visualizing statistics in new ways.
